Protecting Identity

Maintaining and protecting your identity is so important once you leave a negative situation.   You are a survivor and and you must take extra precautions to protect yourself.  It could save your life.

The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence suggest the following steps to protect your identity.

  • Relocate
  • Apply to the address confidentiality program in your state
  • Open a post office box to receive mail
  • Protect you incoming and outgoing mail
    Call 1800-5OPT-OUT to stop receiving credit offers in the mail
  • Guard you social security number
  • Check you credit report
  • Report suspected fraud
    Call the Federal Trade Commission at 1-877-ID-THEFT
    Call the Social Security Administration Fraud Hotline at 1-800-269-0271
  • Protect information you give out
