The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence suggest the following steps to protect your identity.
- Relocate
- Apply to the address confidentiality program in your state
- Open a post office box to receive mail
- Protect you incoming and outgoing mail
Call 1800-5OPT-OUT to stop receiving credit offers in the mail - Guard you social security number
- Check you credit report
- Report suspected fraud
Call the Federal Trade Commission at 1-877-ID-THEFT
Call the Social Security Administration Fraud Hotline at 1-800-269-0271 - Protect information you give out
